MattressRecycling.ca, a local business we featured in the fall, is making it easy to give and be green this holiday season. On Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, the company is offering free mattress, box spring and futon collection for Metro Vancouver residents in exchange for a bag of non-perishable food items for Covenant House Vancouver.
Non-perishable food items are urgently needed at Covenant House, a safe house for youth who have often fled physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse, been forced from their homes or been aged out of foster care. Covenant House provides food, shelter, clothing and counselling to the estimated 500-1,000 street youth in Vancouver.
Food Suggestions:
Beans & sauce, pork & beans, Beans, tinned or dried, Canned meals (i.e. Chef Boyardee/stew/ravioli), Cereal, Cheese whiz, Cookies/Crackers, Fish (canned), Fruit (canned), Hamburger Helper, Jams/Peanut butter, Ketchup, Kraft dinner, Meat (canned – Ham, Turkey), Milk (in tetra packs or powder), Oatmeal, Pasta (especially macaroni), Rice, Tomatoes (canned), Pasta sauces, Tuna, Veggies (canned‚ mushrooms, carrots, peas, potato), Ice tea mix, Juice (mix/canned/tetra)
MattressRecycling.ca – western Canada’s first and largest mattress recycling depot - will waive their residential pick-up fee ($62.50 + HST) on used mattresses in exchange for an any-sized bag of food at the time of collection.
“Basically we want people to give what they can and, in exchange, we’ll take away their old mattress,” said CEO Fabio Scaldaferri. “Even if you don’t have a mattress, we’re happy to pick up your donation to the food drive while we’re in the area.”
Mattresses must be ready for collection at the front door and certain conditions apply. Arrange your pick up during the Covenant House Food Drive by calling 604-973-0183 or emailing info@mattressrecycling.ca to book your donation!
